Terms and conditions of use

By using the National Autistic Society website you agree to be bound by the following Terms and Conditions, which take effect immediately on your first use of this website. 
 

If you do not agree to be bound by all of the following terms (consisting of parts A, B and C) please do not access, use and/or contribute to the National Autistic Society website.
  
We may change these terms from time to time and so you should check these terms regularly. Your continued use of this website will be deemed acceptance of the updated or amended terms. If you do not agree to the changes, you should cease using this website.

  • ‘Content’ refers to any text, photograph or other image presented on this site to Users by either the National Autistic Society or other Users, and ‘your Content’ is Content that you upload to the Community or other parts of the National Autistic Society website.
  • ‘Community’ means NAS online community forum or forums to which you subscribe and to which you upload your Content.
  • 'Link' or 'links' means internet hyperlinks and 'linked' is to be construed accordingly.

Part B: Online Community Terms and Conditions

Definitions

  • 'We' and 'us' means The National Autistic Society and Autism UK Ltd, and includes any person or organisation involved in any part of the design, development, response-handling, marketing, promotion or other similar aspects of this site. 
  • 'User' or 'Users' or 'you' or 'your' refers to any person or persons viewing or interacting with this site. 
  • 'Content' refers to any text, photograph or other image presented on this site to Users by either National Autistic Society or other Users, and 'your Content' is Content that you upload to the Community or other parts of the National Autistic Society website. 
  • 'Community' means the National Autistic Society online community forum or forums to which you subscribe and to which you upload your Content. 
  • 'Link' or 'Links' means Internet hyperlinks and 'linked' is to be construed accordingly.

Purpose

The purpose of the Community is to provide a safe and supportive forum for people on the autism spectrum, their parents, guardians, family, friends, colleagues, and those working in the field of autism to share experiences, views and opinions.

The Community and the National Autistic Society websites in general are not a substitute for professional advice. You should consult your doctor, or other relevant professional, before making any decisions that could affect the health of you or others.

Disclaimer

All Content submitted by Users, views, opinions and information, whether publicly posted or privately sent are those of the individual and are not the views, policy or advice of the National Autistic Society. This includes Content submitted by National Autistic Society staff members when they are participating as individuals in a non-official capacity.

You understand and acknowledge that the person who submitted content is the only person responsible both for their views and the accuracy of their information. 

Any link or reference to third party organisations, their products or their services does not mean that the National Autistic Society endorses them or their products or their services. The National Autistic Society aims to remove such references but is not required to do this.

Personal information

It is a condition of use of the Community that all information submitted by you at registration is truthful and accurate and that you will maintain the accuracy of this information.

Age restriction

Our Community is solely for users aged 16 and over.

If you are 15 years of age or younger you must not register for, or participate in, the Community.

We reserve the right to close your account immediately if we believe that you are 15 years of age or younger. If we close your account we are not obliged to give you any warning, but we will attempt to notify you afterwards by email. You may open an account again as soon as you are 16 years of age. 

Conduct of users

  1. You agree not to participate in mischievous or malicious behaviour which causes damage or may cause damage (including loss of reputation) to the National Autistic Society or this site or any of the computer systems where this site resides. 
  2. Messages or links must not be excessively repeated with the aim of damaging the Community.
  3. You must not impersonate anyone else includingNational Autistic Society staff or falsely state or suggest that you have an affiliation with a person or association.
  4. You must not try to gather personal information from other users of the Community.
  5. You agree not to set up more than one account with the website.

Content submitted by users must adhere to the following conditions:

  1. Content must not be obscene, defamatory or libellous, vulgar, sexually orientated, hateful, threatening, or in violation of any laws.
  2. Content must not be sexist, homophobic, racist, intolerant of religious beliefs, or otherwise discriminatory. This includes links to porn or hate sites.
  3. Content must not infringe any copyright, registered trade marks, rights of privacy, rights of confidentiality, publicity (or image) rights or other intellectual property rights, or other rights of any other person or organisation.
  4. Content, including your posts or profile entry, must not contain your, or any other Users’, personal contact information, such as: email addresses and personal website addresses, postal addresses, telephone, or fax numbers.
  5. Content must not contain any information about any person who is 15 years old or younger, which could be used to identify them.
  6. Links to websites are allowed in public posts and in personal profiles at the discretion of the National Autistic Society. Attempts to use the Community for business purposes and or profit will be removed.
  7. Whilst mentions of products and brands are acceptable within messages or profiles, advertisements or promotions of specific products or services are not allowed and will be deleted.
  8. Links submitted in Content (as part of a message or in User profiles) must not link to web pages or services that break UK law or conflict directly or in spirit with the terms and conditions of use of the Community. Your account will be closed immediately if you link to illegal sites.
  9. Content must be posted in English, unless a language-specific forum is made available for speakers
    of other languages.

The National Autistic Society may edit or remove Content that does not meet the conditions listed above. Users who submit Content that does not meet these conditions may have their account closed without notice. See ‘Community moderation’.

Responsibility

You are responsible for the Content submitted from your account.

Should any legal action arise from the Content you submit to the Community, you undertake to indemnify and hold the National Autistic Society harmless against all costs arising from such legal action - including any claim liability, cost damage or loss incurred by the National Autistic Society.

Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) and copyright of User Content

You retain the ownership rights for your Content and grant the National Autistic Society a non-exclusive, worldwide, perpetual, irrevocable, royalty-free, sub-licensable right to exercise the copyright, publicity right, trade marks, database rights and other intellectual property rights you have in your Content, in any media known now or in the future.

In addition, you waive all moral rights you have in your Content to the fullest extent permitted by law. You represent and warrant that you are entitled to grant such a licence to us.

Research

Gathering information for surveys and research studies, or similar, using the Community is strictly prohibited unless prior permission has been given by the National Autistic Society.

Community moderation

  • The National Autistic Society has the right to remove, edit, move or close any message or group of messages (public or private) for any reason. The National Autistic Society is not required to do this.
  • The National Autistic Society is not obliged to enter into any correspondence regarding the moderation of Content on the Community or any other part of the National Autistic Society website.
  • The National Autistic Society has the right to modify or delete any or all information relating to a User, including deletion of that User's account, without prior notice or reason.
  • Any removal or banning of a visitor from anywhere on the Community is binding and the decision is final. The National Autistic Society is not required to explain any removal or ban.

In cases of dispute, the decision of the Chief Executive Officer of the National Autistic Society is final.

Community rules

The Community rules are a summary of key parts of the terms and conditions. Should there be any discrepancy between the Community rules and the terms and conditions, the terms and conditions take precedence.

Part C: Online recruitment

Purpose

The purpose of the National Autistic Society online recruitment website is to enable applicants to apply for vacancies within the National Autistic Society.

Equal Opportunities policy and monitoring

The National Autistic Society is committed to equal opportunities at all stages of recruitment and selection. Shortlisting, interviewing and selection will always be carried out without regard to gender, gender reassignment, sexual orientation, marital or civil partnership status, colour, race, nationality, ethnic or national origins, religion or belief, age, pregnancy or maternity leave, trade union membership, community background or membership of travelling community.

Any candidate with a disability will not be excluded unless it is clear that the candidate is unable to perform a duty that is intrinsic to the role, having taken into account reasonable adjustments. Reasonable adjustments to the recruitment process will be made to ensure that no applicant is disadvantaged because of his/her disability.

We encourage you to complete the Equal Opportunities monitoring form as part of your application. This form assists us in monitoring who is applying for employment with us, our adherence to equal opportunities best practice and our progress towards identifying any barriers to diversity among our workforce. This form will be separated from your application on receipt and during the recruitment process, but if you are subsequently employed by us, then we will retain it on your personal file unless you ask us to remove it. You are not obliged to answer all the questions but the more information you supply, the more effective our monitoring will be.

Privacy and data protection

The National Autistic Society respects the right to privacy of anyone using its recruitment website.  All data submitted via the National Autistic Society recruitment website will be held securely in accordance with the organisation's Privacy and Data Protection Policy.

The information that you provide during registration and in your application form:

  • will be used to establish your suitability or otherwise for the vacancy for which you are applying
  • will be used to verify the accuracy of the information you have provided us via this website or any other method
  • may be passed to third party recruitment providers, as agents of The National Autistic Society for the purpose of recruitment to the post for which you have applied
  • may be used to contact previous employers, educational institutions, personal referees and licence issuers that you enter on your application form for the purpose of verifying the accuracy of your data and seeking references
  • will be used for anonymous statistical reporting
  • will be used inform you of future National Autistic Society activities and events: you can unsubscribe from these communications at any time
  • may be used to protect the National Autistic Society from legal action in relation to your application.

If your application is successful and you become an employee of the National Autistic Society, your information will be used for the following purpose during your employment:

  • communicating with you; correspondence will be by email or telephone and we will use your personal data to facilitate this
  • administering your salary, pensions and any other benefits
  • understanding your training and development requirements
  • assessing your performance
  • statutory record keeping.

We will use the contact details you enter on your application form and any other contact details you may supply to us to remain in contact with you for the purpose of completing the recruitment process, and for arranging and maintaining your employment if your application is successful.

Access to information

You have the right to request a copy of any personal information about you held by us and to have any inaccuracies corrected. Please contact the relevant HR team, details are available on our contact us page.

Use of service

The submission of any false information (whether knowingly or unknowingly) by you on your application form may lead to the following:

  • disqualification of your application from any recruitment process you may be involved in
  • any future application by you for any vacancies at the National Autistic Society being automatically rejected
  • an offer of employment or training based on your application being withdrawn
  • your employment being terminated without notice
  • legal action being taken against you where permitted by law.

Communications

Due to the volume of applications we receive, unsuccessful applicants may receive standard or automated correspondence from us.

We endeavour to screen all applications received through this website, however where application volumes are large, we reserve the right not to acknowledge your application, but where we do this will be by email and we will use your personal data to facilitate this.

Where an application is unsuccessful before you have reached the interview stage of the recruitment process we will not be obliged to inform you as to the reason for rejection.

There is no appeal process for an unsuccessful application. However if you have a complaint or query regarding your application please email the relevant HR team, details are available on our contact us page.

Where an application is unsuccessful at or after interview stage we will not provide feedback unless you request it. To do this please email the relevant HR team, details are available on our contact us page and type ‘Feedback Request’ into the subject line.  This feedback may be provided verbally or written (by email).

An unsuccessful application for a current vacancy does not prevent you from applying for subsequently advertised vacancies unless you have been disqualified through submission of false information.

Existing employees

If you are an existing employee wishing to apply for a job role advertised on this site please do so using the self-service portal.

Previous employees

Some categories of previous National Autistic Society employees may be ineligible to apply for roles due, for example, to receipt of severance packages. If you are a previous employee of the National Autistic Society and in any doubt as to your eligibility to re-apply please email the relevant HR team, details are available on our contact us page.
