In the majority of cases, the different forms of support which the NAS student support service provides is funded through Disabled Student Allowance (DSA), but in some cases the university or college may pay for the support. The support can be accessed in several ways. 

We have long-standing agreements with several universities and students at these institutions access our service through their disability advisers (University of Glasgow, University of Stirling).

However, students at any institution in Scotland can access the NAS Scotland Mentoring Service for support.

The process for referral in both cases is described below.

•  A student can contact their university or college student support or disability service prior to starting, or at any point during their studies, to request support. 
•  When meeting with an advisor, access to Specialist Student Mentoring (or Study Skills Support/In-Class Support) may be suggested by the advisor or requested by a student.
• With assistance, a student can apply for Disabled Student Allowance (DSA) from SAAS, SFE, SFW or SFNI to fund the support. NAS Student Support should be named as the provider of the type of support being requested and the correct rate included (see below for current rates).
• Once the funding is in place, the student will be contacted by the student support coordinator who will introduce the service and will assign the student a mentor. The mentor will then arrange for an initial session to take place.
