The National Autistic Society Cymru has launched a guide for Senedd (Welsh Parliament) members and local councillors aiming to help them run an Autistic friendly constituency. The guide contains a basic summary of what autism is, the barriers autistic people face, and how politicians can be an autistic friendly representative. It includes guidance for running an autistic friendly constituency office.
James Radcliffe, External Affairs Manager for Wales at NAS Cymru said:
"It is important that elected representatives think about how they can best represent all their constituents, which include autistic people. This means thinking about how accessible their constituency offices are, how they talk to and communicate with autistic people, and what they themselves say about autism. This guide is a useful summary for those who are elected, or seeking election, to how to help create a society that works for autistic people. Autistic people and their families are interested in Politics, vote, and want their elected representatives to take forward the issues that concern them, and we hope this guide helps makes their representatives more accessible"
