At Cherry Trees we help people to build their skills and independence – and to enjoy themselves – by providing a mix of learning and leisure. Everyone has their own programme with individual goals. Our overall aim is to encourage people to become more independent, so each person has a timetable at home which we create with them to reflect their needs and likes. It includes home chores such as shopping, cooking and independent living skills, and social activities in the local community such as visiting clubs, pubs, restaurants, theatre, cinema and sports.
Everyone has a full programme of day activities that can include an extremely wide range of opportunities such as vocational skills training at our North Somerset Centre, supported employment, or further education at a local college.
At Cherry Trees itself we offer a range of activities including art and craft, music, games and puzzles, cooking and IT. We also have exercise equipment, a gazebo and table tennis.

Why choose us?
We have autism expertise and knowledge, offer person-centred care, and help people understand their diagnosis.
Read more"Staff provided person-centred support by listening to people and engaging them at every opportunity. Staff were very kind and caring and people using the service were calm and comfortable in the presence of staff."
Placement suitability
The individual would need to have a diagnosis of autism and although Cherry Trees is registered from aged 18+, we are currently supporting 7 males aged 45+ therefore a compatibility assessment would be required for anyone new moving into the home.
Characteristics of the people we currently support range from cheerful, excitable and kind natured. They have a wide range of interests and enjoy conversation, crafts, computers, participating in the independent living chores as well as trying new things. Being active and having a love of community based activities is important whilst being able to share support.
Due to such active lifestyles being led by the peope living at Cherry Trees it is essential that anyone moving in is not noisy at night and won't disturb/impact sleep patterns. Privacy is very important and therefore respect around personal space and boundaries is desirable. We are unable to accommodate the requirement for a DoLS around locked doors.
The current vacancies are 2 small double bedrooms with a wash basin. There are no en-suites however there is ample shared facilities including 2 bathroom, 1 shower room, 1 wet room and 2 stand alone toilets. These facilities will be shared by 9 people when the home is fully occupied. This is a large home with access to upstairs via 2 staircases, one of which is narrow. The generous size of the home offers space to relax away from peers.
In England the regulatory body CQC is ensuring support providers are providing local support for local people. Therefore when we receive a referral from outside of the local authority area where our service is, we need to demonstrate we have taken steps to explore meaningful family links or connections to the area. We would also need a clear rationale from the funder as to why they are seeking an out of county placement. Therefore not all referrals may be considered for each NAS service.
