Sonal shares their story

I chose to volunteer with the National Autistic Society because I strongly believe in supporting autistic individuals and their families. Despite growing awareness, many families still feel isolated and find everyday experiences challenging.
As a mum to a non-verbal autistic boy, I understand both the beauty and the challenges of this journey, which motivates me to support others. Through my role, I hope to share awareness, support and reassurance that no family is alone.
What I like about my role?
What I value most is being able to emotionally support parents who may not have anyone else to talk to. I understand how isolating this journey can feel, and simply listening can make a real difference. Sharing my own experiences often helps parents feel seen, heard, and less alone. It’s incredibly fulfilling to know that even a conversation can bring comfort and relief.
