For Hannah, being diagnosed as autistic at 19 was overwhelming. She was still learning what autism meant for her when she began to face painful ableism and discrimination. Experiences like these made her question herself and where she belonged.
At the National Autistic Society, we’re here to make sure autistic people like Hannah don’t feel alone. Through programmes such as our Young Campaigners, we provide safe, supportive spaces where autistic young people can build confidence, connect with others, and use their voices to campaign for change.
“I've been told by a couple of people how just by me being who I am and being open, honest and authentic has really impacted them in terms of their own autistic identity.”- Hannah
