At The Retreat Clinics, we have over 200 years of experience supporting people with their mental health and wellbeing. We are passionate about delivering bespoke, flexible treatments that work for each individual. As an independent charity with roots in York’s Quaker community, we combine a rich heritage of care with modern, evidence-based approaches. Guided by our values of compassion, collaboration, and community building, we are committed to helping people live well with themselves, so that we can all live better together.

If you are considering an autism assessment, you may be reflecting on your own experiences after recognising traits that resonate with you, whether through something you have seen, read, or observed in your own life.

Our autism diagnostic assessments are gold-standard and follow NICE Guidelines, ensuring a thorough, evidence-based process. Receiving an assessment can provide clarity, validation, and a deeper understanding of your neurodivergent identity. It can also help those around you, family, friends, and colleagues to better understand your experiences, communication styles, sensory differences, and support needs. A diagnosis can open access to appropriate services, reasonable adjustments, and entitlements that may support your wellbeing and independence.

Beyond assessment, we offer post-diagnostic support in a compassionate, neuro-affirming space. This includes helping you make sense of your diagnosis, reflect on past experiences, and develop practical strategies for daily life, wellbeing, and self-acceptance.

We also provide specialist psychological therapy for autistic children, young people and adults, delivered by clinicians experienced in autism-informed care. Therapy is tailored to individual strengths, differences, and goals, and can support areas such as anxiety, low mood, burnout, identity, relationships, or navigating work and everyday life.

Our service is designed to provide personalised, compassionate, and empowering support at every stage — from gold-standard assessment following NICE Guidelines, through diagnosis, and beyond.

We are accredited by APPTS, and CQC registered.
