The Advocacy Project is an independent, rights-based organisation.
We believe everyone deserves to be treated fairly and have their views heard. Our ultimate goal is a society where everyone has equal opportunities and rights, regardless of their circumstances.
We provide one-to-one advocacy support for people aged 16+ across East Renfrewshire and Glasgow.
We support adults who have disabilities, long-term health conditions, or issues with alcohol and drugs, especially when they find themselves:
- Dealing with legal processes or official decisions about their rights and freedoms
- Involved in decisions about their health and social care needs
- Struggling to get the services and support they need to live with dignity and a good quality of life
We also support people affected by specific legislation, including:
- Mental Health (Care and Treatment) (Scotland) Act
- Adult Support and Protection (Scotland) Act
- Adults with Incapacity (Scotland) Act
- Social Care (Self-Directed Support) (Scotland) Act
Advocacy can support you to speak out about:
- your rights
- what you need
- what matters to you
Independent advocates are not employed by the organisations that provide services in your area. We are independent of social work, health and social care services.
An independent advocate
- is on your side and no one else’s
- will treat all people fairly and with respect and make sure other people do too
- will make sure you can see your advocate in a place that suits you
- will help you speak up or speak up for you if needed
- can support you to make decisions
- will not judge or influence you
