Seafield Psychology is a specialist independent psychology service based in Hertford, Hertfordshire, providing autism and ADHD assessments, psychological therapy and consultation for children, young people and adults.
We have particular expertise in neurodevelopment and understand that autistic people can experience the world, relationships, communication and emotional wellbeing in many different ways. Our approach is neuroaffirmative and strengths-based. We aim to understand each person as an individual, rather than viewing autism as a collection of difficulties that need to be changed.
We provide comprehensive autism assessments for both children and adults. Assessments draw on information from different sources and use established diagnostic approaches, while also considering the person's individual strengths, needs, experiences and wider context. We recognise that autistic characteristics can present differently between people and across different stages of life, including in people who have learned to mask or camouflage aspects of themselves.
Alongside diagnostic assessment, we provide psychological therapy and support for autistic and other neurodivergent people. This may include support with anxiety, emotional regulation, low mood, OCD, relationships, school or work-related difficulties, identity and adjusting to or making sense of a diagnosis.
We recognise that traditional psychological services and environments do not always work well for autistic people. Our support is therefore adapted wherever possible to the individual. This can include using clear and direct communication, allowing additional processing time, providing greater predictability about what will happen during appointments, adapting the pace and structure of sessions, and considering sensory or communication preferences. We do not expect autistic people to communicate, interact or behave in a neurotypical way in order to engage with our service.
For children and young people, we work collaboratively with parents and carers and, where appropriate, schools and other professionals to build a shared understanding of the young person's strengths and support needs.
Appointments are available face-to-face in Hertford and online where appropriate. Individuals and families can contact Seafield Psychology directly and do not need a professional referral.
