Sagal Hassan is an ACP-registered Child and Adolescent Psychotherapist offering parent consultation, assessment and psychotherapy for autistic and ADHD children, teenagers, young adults and families.
I work with young people where autism, ADHD, anxiety, school attendance difficulties, EBSA, exam stress, masking, autistic burnout, fatigue, chronic illness, pain or persistent physical symptoms have become difficult to manage.
My approach is psychoanalytic, evidence-informed and biopsychosocial. I think carefully about the whole child, including emotional life, development, family relationships, school experience, sensory needs, neurodivergence, physical health, medical history and the wider professional network.
My work is tailored to autistic young people by taking time to understand how they communicate, what helps them feel safe, what overwhelms them, and how school, family life, friendships, sensory demands, masking or physical symptoms may be affecting them. I do not see the aim of therapy as making an autistic child appear less autistic. The aim is to understand what is happening, reduce shame, support emotional development, and help the child and family find a more sustainable way of functioning.
Many families come to me after speaking to several professionals already. I do not assume that therapy is always the right first step. Families can begin with a parent consultation or initial assessment, so we can think carefully about what has already been tried, what may be contributing to the difficulty, and what kind of support may be most helpful.
Support may include parent consultation, individual child or adolescent psychotherapy, parent-child work, parent work, school liaison, healthcare liaison, or onward referral where another assessment or professional opinion is needed.
I have 10 years’ experience in NHS paediatric and CAMHS settings, including UCLH TRACCS, where I worked with young people affected by complex physical health conditions, functional symptoms, CFS/ME, Long Covid and FND.
Appointments are available in Highgate, Harley Street and online.
