I am an AuDHD, psychodynamic therapist working with individual adults 18+ in Birmingham, UK, and online. My work is usually, but not exclusively, with autistic, ADHD, and otherwise neurodivergent clients, who are often members of the LGBTQIA+ community. I work affirmatively with queer, trans and gender expansive clients.
Autistic clients come to me for all different reasons. Some wish to process a late diagnosis, others have long standing difficulties that are often misread or misunderstood by professionals, and which have left a legacy of harm.
Some come to work through grief, to better understand themselves in relationships, to understand unhelpful patterns that have developed, to work out what they might want to change and what needs to be accepted as part of their neurology.
Every autistic person is different, and I am not going to be an expert on you - you don’t need one. I can, though, create a therapeutic relationship with you that may offer a space in which you can find sustainable, meaningful, affirming ways of being in the world.
I work weekly with clients at a dedicated day and time. My office in Birmingham is spacious, with low lighting, has lots of stim options, and scent is kept to a minimum (photos on my website). Online I use zoom but can also work with Google meet. It is possible to work with me in a hybrid way – sometimes coming in person and sometimes online, or solely one or the other.
My training was a postgraduate training in psychodynamic practice at Oxford University. I have also completed the National Autism Trainer Training (NATP https://www.annafreud.org/training/health-and-social-care/national-autism-trainer-programme/) and specific training with Gendered Intelligence. I am a registered member of the BACP, insured by Balens Ltd., and keep up to date with regular CPD.
Alongside private practice I work pro-bono at the local hospice in their bereavement counselling service and sometimes teach/supervise research on an MSc in Psychotherapy
