If you've been diagnosed later in life, are waiting for an assessment, or have recognised yourself in something you've read and aren't sure what to do with that, this is for you. You might be dealing with burnout, sensory overload or years of trying to fit in. Therapy can give you space to reflect on your experiences without the need to mask or explain yourself.
I'm Jodie, a BACP-registered counsellor in Whitefield, North Manchester. Working with autistic adults is one of my main areas of interest and training. I also work with ADHD, and with people who are both. You don't need a diagnosis to see me.
Autism is not a problem to be fixed, and our sessions aren't about helping you fit in. My approach is person-centred, which means you're the expert on your own life. There's no set agenda, no homework and no expectation to talk in a certain way. We'll go at a pace that feels manageable.
My room is quiet, and I've set it up with neurodiversity in mind. You don't need to make eye contact. The lighting and temperature can be changed, there are fidget toys if they help, and you can take a break to move whenever you need to. If a full session feels too long, half-hour sessions are an option. If it helps to bring notes, or to record our sessions so you can listen back, that's fine too.
If "how does that make you feel?" has never had an easy answer, we don't need to start there. We can come at things from a different direction, in a way that works for you.
Many autistic people have had support before that didn't take their needs into account. If that's been your experience, it doesn't mean counselling can't work for you. It may mean that kind didn't.
There's no set number of sessions. Some people come for a few months around something specific, like a late diagnosis. Others stay longer because it keeps being useful. You can stop whenever you choose.
I work with adults aged 18 and over, one to one. Sessions are in person in Whitefield, a short walk from the tram with free parking nearby, or by video, telephone or walking therapy. My training includes working with autism, the BACP self-determination model for adults with ADHD, and the overlap between neurodiversity and trauma. You can see my full qualifications below.
It starts with a free 15-minute call. There's no pressure, just a chance to talk and see whether this feels like the right space for you. If it doesn't, I'll help you find someone who might be a better fit.
You are welcome here, exactly as you are.
