Autism Seminars for Families

The Autism seminars for families facilitator resource pack and seminar inserts are no longer being sold by The National Autistic Society.

These materials were developed and printed in 2012 and have been a valued support to professionals across the UK in providing information to parents of children on the autism spectrum. As a result of changes to education and welfare rights legislation, diagnostic criteria and the language we use to describe autism, some of the information contained within the materials is now out of date.

At The National Autistic Society, we are reviewing how we can continue and develop our family support offer. Providing the right information about autism and the support available is extremely important to us, so alongside the work we are doing ourselves to ensure that our own website is up to date, we are also looking at all the publications that we offer. We do not have the funding to enable us to review and reprint all of the Autism seminars for families materials, so we have had to make the difficult decision to no longer sell the facilitator pack, the existing seminar inserts of managing anger and sensory needs, and will not be producing seminar inserts for supporting siblings or understanding behaviour.

The Understanding autism, Managing anger and Sensory needs booklets have been revised and updated and take account of changes in diagnostic criteria, legislation and language used to describe autism. Individuals and teams that are currently using the Autism seminars for families materials are welcome to purchase the new seminar booklets to use to support the delivery of the seminars. However, you will need to be aware that the information in the existing trainer notes will be out of date, and you may need to adapt some of the slides yourself to ensure consistency.

We would like to thank all the individuals and teams that have used the Autism seminars for families materials, and hope that you will continue to be able to provide information to families in alternative formats. We have a wealth of information on our website that you or the families you support can access.

As part of our review of family support, if you would be interested in having one of our colleagues come to deliver a seminar in your local area, please do contact us at
