Welcome to Helen Allison School
When you walk through our doors, you’ll find a school where your child will be among people who understand autism. Everyone here takes a positive approach to our students – we find out how well they can do, and have the expertise to help them learn and become confident young people.
Our main school is based in Meopham, Kent. Out of The National Autistic Society’s schools, we were one of the first to open, and today we draw on over 40 years of experience. We are also one of only a few schools to have our own therapeutic team: our speech and language therapist, occupational therapist and psychology department work closely together with our teaching and care staff every day. This means that your child will develop not only academically, but will also build strong social and communication skills.
Our environment is warm, welcoming and autism-friendly, and we hope that you will come and visit us to get to know us better.
Our school was last visited by Ofsted Inspectors in January 2019. They found many strengths in the children’s learning, progress and our curriculum. However, we were disappointed that inspectors also found inadequacies in our safeguarding systems. The moment inspectors told us about these problems, we started work to fix them. Staff have received additional training about their safeguarding responsibilities and effective systems have been put in place. We are now quickly working a broader plan to see through all the necessary improvements.
While there are changes and improvements that we have to put in place, we know that the school has strong foundations to work from. We will continue to work in partnership with our students, their parents and carers, and local councils. And I know that, working together, we can quickly make sure we are an outstanding school again.
You can read my letter to parents and carers here and our latest Ofsted report here.
We look forward to meeting you.
