Kate Coldrick – Specialist Literacy Tutor for Autistic & Neurodivergent Learners

Main information

Service categories: Information, advice and advocacy, Schools and education providers

I am a specialist literacy tutor and education consultant supporting autistic and neurodivergent children and young people.

My work focuses on structured, evidence-informed reading and writing support, including phonics, spelling, orthographic mapping and Functional Skills preparation. Sessions are calm, predictable and strengths-based, designed to reduce anxiety and support learners experiencing masking, school-related stress, or emotionally based school avoidance (EBSA).

I understand that many autistic children hold themselves together during the school day and release that effort in safe environments. My approach prioritises emotional safety, clarity and explicit teaching so that learning does not rely on inference, hidden expectations or social guesswork.

I also create inclusive literacy resources specifically structured for autistic learners. These resources are used by parents, home-educating families and classroom teachers who want practical, autism-informed strategies that make learning clearer and more accessible.

I work online across the UK and in person in Devon.
