Sonny Hallett
Sonny Hallett is a person-centred counsellor based in Edinburgh. They are autistic, trans and mixed race. They are also a trainer, consultant and co-founder of AMASE (Autistic Mutual Aid Society Edinburgh). They have been and continue to be involved in research around autistic identity, belonging, peer support, counselling and cross-neurotype communication.
Sonny is particularly interested in the impact and importance of diversity in the counselling profession, how to support more neurodivergent and queer folks to become therapists, and how counsellors and trainers can be supported to expand their imaginations and practices, to be more inclusive and welcoming of different ways of being - be that neurodivergence, disability, gender, sexuality or ethnicity.
They also passionately believe in the value of nature, creativity and the person-centred approach. Being in nature, being creative and finding different ways of understanding, communicating and connecting are key parts of their practice. They spend a lot of time out in the woods learning about all the plants, insects, birds and fungi.
