Main information

We provide diagnostic assessments for autism. We follow all NICE guidelines and DSM 5 criteria. We use standard diagnostic tools which include the 3Di, ADI-R, ADOS 2 and AAA. From children and teens our process is as follows: Parents are invited for an initial online (parent only) consultation with our lead psychologist to get an understanding of your child’s developmental history and presenting needs, as well as what parents need and want from our service.

We then offer two assessment sessions. One is for parents only and is with our clinical psychologist online, which is when the ADI-R or 3Di is completed. The other is for children and teens and is in our Hambledon Clinic and the ADOS 2 is completed. Checklists are sent to you for you to complete, your child as appropriate, and to provide to your child’s school for the adult who knows your child best to fill in.

Our clinic is based on a farm in a converted dairy, light filled and welcoming where children and young people are able to relax. Freddie, our gentle and loving service dog, is usually in the room at our Hambledon clinic, and he helps break the ice. A voice recording will be made for effective safeguarding and supervision purposes. For adults the service is as follows: All our assessments are conducted in line with NICE guidelines and DSM V criteria. We use the Adult Autism Assessment (formerly the Adult Asperger’s Assessment), known as the AAA with the relevant screening questionnaires.

Our autism service is supervised by a Consultant Clinical Psychologist and autism diagnostic specialist. We ask that potential clients fill in the AQ10 screener. Once you are booked in, you will have three appointments with our psychologists in total; the first is an in person or initial online call (50 minutes) whereby we discuss why you feel this assessment is right for you and gather some background information. Next will be an in-person assessment appointment in our Hambledon clinic to which you are welcome to invite a close relative or friend. This lasts approximately 90 minutes.

Finally, following a diagnostic case discussion in supervision, we offer a diagnostic outcome consultation in person or by an online call, whichever is your preference (50 minutes). These appointments are spaced approximately 2 weeks apart. All in-person appointments are recorded using voice recording software for safeguarding and effective supervision purposes. You will subsequently receive a report detailing the diagnostic outcome.
