Ginny D’Odorico

Ginny is the Headteacher of The Windmill School, a newly established autism-specific school in North London, and a doctoral researcher at the Centre for Research in Autism and Education (CRAE) at the UCL Institute of Education. Ginny is currently undertaking her PhD.
With over 26 years’ experience working in the London Borough of Barnet, Ginny’s career has been guided by a clear purpose: to create school cultures in which autism is understood, respected, and embraced, with inclusion at the heart of educational practice. She brings extensive experience as a teacher, practitioner, and senior leader in special schools, having taught autistic children and young people across a wide range of profiles and support needs.
Ginny holds a BSc in Psychology, a PGCE in Primary Education, and an MSc in Special Educational Needs (Psychological Perspectives) from UCL Institute of Education. Her MSc dissertation at CRAE focused on using school assessment data to map the cognitive profiles and learning styles of autistic learners.
Her research and professional interests are grounded in neuro-affirming approaches to autism education, with a particular focus on the applied use of frameworks such as SCERTS in special school contexts. Ginny has worked closely with the National Autistic Society for nearly two decades and currently contributes to local, multidisciplinary work shaping autism provision across inclusive and specialist settings. She is also a Specialist Leader of Education (SLE) for SEND and an experienced consultant and advisor.
