Volunteers' Week 2022
All year round we celebrate the work of our amazing volunteers. During Volunteers Week 2022 we heard from some of them about why they volunteer and what it means to them.
Ben – Chair, North Somerset branch
'I enjoy being a volunteer for the National Autistic Society because it’s fun. It makes me feel happy as I’m helping people, as well as supporting my fellow autistic peers within the community. I enjoy organising new activities for the branch and liaising with the committee, which makes me feel good because I am making a difference. It allows me to meet new people, at places like autism fayres, as well as being more connected and helping me to improve my confidence by doing talks about autism to groups. I also get to know National Autistic Society staff and feel valued.'
Damian - volunteer with NASplus+ Glasgow
'I found volunteering on the Glasgow social navigation group a rewarding and enjoyable experience. Building relationships with the group members felt really fulfilling. It was amazing to see the members grow in confidence when interacting with each other, with me and with the charity’s staff. It was also great fun! I looked forward to each session, as we spent a lot of time laughing together, or laughing at my lack of knowledge about memes! I'm so glad that I have got to spend time with some brilliant people.'
Hannah – volunteer with Ayrshire online groups
'I absolutely love volunteering with the National Autistic Society! It is such an amazing, fun and rewarding experience. I have really enjoyed getting to know everyone on the social groups and watching them grow in confidence. Also, volunteering has allowed me to gain invaluable skills and knowledge. Overall, I couldn’t recommend volunteering with the National Autistic Society enough and I encourage everyone to get involved in any way they can!'
