Northamptonshire Outreach Service

The National Autistic Society

Main information

Type of service: Domiciliary services, Outreach

Our flexible outreach service of 25 hours or more per week helps autistic adults to take part in activities outside their home, build their confidence and become more independent in all aspects of life. For example, we can help people to take part in their favourite sport or attend a college course.

The Northamptonshire Outreach Service was started in 1999 to meet the needs of people with a diagnosis of autism and Asperger Syndrome who live in the community. The service provides support tailored to the individual's own requirements and helps people to live as independently as possible. We provide Outreach Services to help people to build their confidence and develop independence in many settings and in all aspects of life. Each package is unique - person centred and individualised to focus on the needs, wishes and aspirations of the individual. The support can be long or short term depending on the individual's needs and may be offered to people:

  • in supported living accommodation
  • in a sheltered housing scheme
  • in the family home
  • in the community
  • in a university, college or other educational setting.

Individual packages will include:

  • Autistim-specific, person-centred approaches (TEACCH, PECs, etc)
  • Support with goal-setting
  • Support with general issues relating to autism
  • Strategies to keep safe
  • Support to maintain relationships with family and friends
  • Opportunities to go out and about in the community.

Referrals are accepted via CMHT, Transition & Liaison Team and Social Services. Self referrals are also accepted. Volunteers may be accepted to work with service users.
