Super Swimmers Academy
Bristol's only swimming club exclusively for autistic children. The children are taught in bite-sized lessons by our team of wonderful, qualified swimming instructors. The children follow the STA Rockhopper Series.
About Super Swimmers Academy
Super Swimmers was launched in January 2016 and was the result of the tireless work and commitment of NAS Bristol committee member, Lynda Thomas.
Lynda wanted to expand on our monthly Splash and Play family swimming sessions and give children an opportunity to develop their swimming skills and become part of an exclusive club – and so Super swimmers Academy was created.
The SSA takes place alongside our monthly fun swims, so children can enjoy some free time before or after their lesson. The lessons themselves are small, bite-sized lessons of 20 minutes, where children will work with instructors in small groups or 1:1 to learn the skills necessary to earn their awards.
The Super Swimmers Academy uses the STA Rockhopper Series to support children as they develop into strong, confident swimmers – learning not only the physical aspects of swimming, but also about water safety and how to stay safe in the pool environment.
Recognising the importance of swimming and water safety for people with disabilities, the Rockhopper series is an exciting programme consisting of 9 awards which introduce learners with disabilities to the joy of water. The series develops water confidence and water skills as well as increasing water safety awareness and knowledge.

Lessons take place on the first Saturday of the month at Easton Leisure Centre – a venue which has welcomed our group for many years and have worked with us to make this possible. Easton Leisure Centre is an ideal venue as it has both a large pool and a smaller splash pool and also a water flume – which is a firm favourite among members.
Following lessons, members meet in the party room to celebrate achievements, collect certificates and enjoy a drink and snack and socialising with friends.
We are all very proud of what Super Swimmers Academy has achieved and look forward to watching it grow in the future.
