From the point of view of her clinical practice, Sue will explore some of the aspects of mental health that can be missed and misdiagnosed when an autistic person comes into contact with mental health services or accesses autism diagnostic pathways. The consequences of both under and over diagnosis of mental health conditions can be dangerous and devastating. This talk is not about easy solutions and answers but about reflecting on thinking and practice and ensuring that clinicians really listen to autistic voices and remain curious and open to a range of possibilities.
