Plenary - Holly Smale
Women and girls are still less likely to be diagnosed as autistic, but are there really fewer of them or do they simply get missed?
A late-diagnosed autistic woman, Holly Smale will talk about a lifetime of masking, of changing to fit others and of somehow slipping under the radar, despite displaying clear autistic traits from birth.
This talk will consider: what is it about autistic women and girls that gets overlooked and dismissed? How much does society have a role to play in it? And what can we do to make sure autistic girls don’t become undiagnosed, lost and unhappy autistic women?
