The Muir Practice delivers formal Autism Assessments, for those between the ages of 3 and 21, with no waiting lists.
We realise this can be an incredibly emotional and overwhelming experience, however we approach each person sensitively and with the highest level of care and understanding. Everyone is unique.
An autism assessment is the first step towards understanding yourself, enabling others to understand you fully and getting the support you need to live a happy and fulfilling life.
We specialise in the assessment and diagnosis of children, adolescents, and young adults who present with differences in their social communication and interaction. At The Muir Practice we not only assess individuals but also offer post diagnostic support including therapy and training to care-givers or education staff. This support can be offered within our Glasgow based specialist clinic, or within the individual’s own home, nursery, school or college.
The diagnostic assessment is carried out by two skilled and experienced autism specialist professionals. This includes administration of various assessment tools including the ADOS-2 which is an activity-based assessment designed to assess social communication, interaction, and imagination. The ADOS is considered the gold standard for autism assessment, however this is only part of the overall assessment.
It is important to consider all other information from parents and the educational setting and any other relevant professionals when concluding a diagnosis. Our clinicians also can consult with a qualified Clinical Psychologist, if required.
An autism diagnosis from The Muir Practice is a formal diagnosis. All of our autism specialists have been trained in and have extensive experience in NHS Neurodevelopmental Assessments. No local authority has ever dismissed a formal diagnosis from The Muir Practice but if for any reason there are difficulties then we would challenge this and ensure a positive outcome.
Our team offer a free online initial consultation via the website link above. This appointment allows you to talk with one of our autism specialists to ensure that this is the right assessment for you and your family.
