This two-day training is for professionals who want to train to deliver the Autism and SPELL course within their organisation. The training will develop delegates’ understanding of the Autism and SPELL training materials by introducing and discussing key parts and messages of the course. It uses experiential activities throughout and supports delegates in developing their confidence in delivering the Autism and SPELL course.

On completion of the training course, delegates sign a licencing agreement and are provided with access to the Autism and SPELL training materials.

Who is the training for?

The Autism and SPELL Licensed User training is for professionals who work in a variety of settings including education and social care, and want to develop their colleagues’ understanding of autism and practice. There is an application process as we need to ensure that delegates have the right knowledge and skills before attending the course. Specifically, we expect that delegates will have:

at least two years experience supporting autistic people
a good understanding of autism

What does attending the licensed user training involve?

Prior to attending:

fill in an application form detailing experience in supporting autistic people. The application form is checked by the training team and if criteria are met, attendance is approved.

During the training:

attend both days of the training
participate in activities

After the training:

sign the licencing agreement
access and download electronic Autism and SPELL materials and resources

About the Autism and SPELL course

The Autism and SPELL course from the National Autistic Society is based on training that our specialist autism trainers have been delivering successfully to thousands of professionals across the UK and internationally for a number of years.

Autism and SPELL is a 2-day course which provides an in depth understanding of autism and the SPELL framework. SPELL is a flexible framework that supports our understanding of autistic experience and how to explore supportive approaches. Focusing on autistic perspectives throughout, the training explores key areas of difference in autism and how to provide person- centred support based on the principles of the SPELL Framework.

Course delivery

Autism and SPELL courses are delivered for between five to 20 delegates using a PowerPoint Presentation, accompanying video clips and additional hand-outs. A printed licensed user training manual is provided to support delivery.

Licensed user training details and timings

The licensed user training is delivered by our experienced and knowledgeable training consultants over two days. The sessions are informative and interactive - designed to develop your confidence in using the materials and delivering the course.

This course is delivered between 9.30am – 3.30pm, including breaks and lunchtime.

Live online courses are delivered using Microsoft Teams

Delegates will be sent joining links and materials prior to the course. We have approximately 15 delegates on each group, and we try to be sensitive to individual adjustments that people may need, including cameras being optional and using the chat function for interactions.

Face-to-face courses are delivered at a venue of your choosing
