Safeguarding and child protection
Sybil Elgar School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all our students and expects all staff, multi-agency staff and volunteers to share this commitment. Our school staff are here to keep children and young people safe and secure and to promote their personal safety and wellbeing.
We have a number of policies and procedures in place that contribute to our safeguarding commitment and which are in line with Keeping Children Safe in Education. These policies are accessible to all staff, visitors, multi-agency staff, parents and carers. Policies and procedures are reviewed and revised by the National Autistic Society on a regular basis. Click here to see more of our Safeguarding Policies.
Sybil Elgar School has policies and procedures in place to deal effectively with child protection and safeguarding concerns. Sometimes we may need to share information and work in partnership with other agencies, when there are concerns about a student’s welfare. We will ensure that our concerns about the student are discussed with parents/carers first, unless we have reason to believe that such a move would be contrary to the student’s welfare.
Please view the Safeguarding Children and Young People (Child Protection) Policy
If you have a concern that a student is being harmed, is at risk of harm, or you receive a disclosure (intentionally or unintentionally) you must contact one of the Designated Safeguarding Leads listed below as quickly as possible.
The Senior Designated Safeguarding Lead is Lucy Burholt. The Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead is Anne Williams. Other staff trained in child protection are Thea Smit (Lead Teacher & Designated Teacher for LAC), Padmaja Namballa (Teacher), Marius Roteliuc (Post 16 Manager)
Sybil Elgar School is committed to safeguarding and promoting a safe environment for our students. Strict child and adult protection recruitment procedures operate and all appointments are subject to statutory checks on staff and volunteers including enhanced checks from the DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service).
