Sybil Elgar was approached by Helen Allison, one of the founding family members of the National Autistic Society, to teach her son. What started as a small group in Elgar’s basement eventually grew to a new premise on Florence Road, where the world’s first school for autistic people was established.
The school’s success continued to grow, with more houses purchased on Florence Road to house pupils.
From that point, the school committed to grow and moved to its current site in Southall.
