About our branch
Who we are
- We are a volunteer-led branch of the National Autistic Society
- We provide support via email, social media, phone or face to face
- We also provide learning sessions for autistic individuals and their families, as well as an information line and a termly newsletter.
- We are involved in a number of strategic groups, making sure that the voice of autistic individuals, as well as their families, are heard.
- We campaign for Cheshire West and Chester to become a place where autistic children and adults are valued and feel fully included in their communities.
Autism support centre
Our Autism Support Centre is based in the grounds of Greenbank school in Northwich. The centre is currently open by appointment, on a Wednesday during term time, although there is some flexibility in appointment days and times. The support centre houses a wide collection of books, DVDs, CDs, visual aids, sensory toys and other useful tools to help autistic individuals and their families. We also provide resources for other co-existing conditions. We aim to provide a supportive, informal environment where autistic individuals, parents/carers and professionals can find information, talk to others in a similar situation or just have a coffee and browse our shelves.
For several years, the Autism Team and our branch of the National Autistic Society have amassed a varied collection of books. The autism service kindly donated the library for use by the branch. This collection is frequently updated and continues to grow. It covers subjects from social skills to emotional understanding, employment and support services, children’s mental health, language development and parent/sibling support to name but a few.
The Autism Support Centre offers the unique facility to borrow or try out on site. This includes sensory toys, weighted clothing, visual aids, ear defenders, timing tools, plus much more. This proves invaluable for autistic adults or families of autistic children, helping them to find items that will provide support in everyday life, without having to spend a large amount at the outset.
