Our Masterclasses are short, focused training sessions that look at a single specialist topic in depth. They give you knowledge and tools that are hard to find elsewhere, and that you can apply straight away in your work. Our facilitators are experts in autism with a deep knowledge of the Masterclass topic that’s based on research, practice, or both.

Delivered by Dr Sally Powis, this masterclass will look at Autism and gender dysphoria.

Dr Sally Powis is a Consultant Clinical Psychologist who has worked with both children and adults on the autism spectrum since 1999 in the NHS, third sector and private practice. She currently works in Oxfordshire and Cornwall with autistic adults of all ability levels. In 2012-13 she helped set up services in the British Virgin Islands for people with autism. Her work includes assessment and diagnosis, therapy to individuals, training other health professionals to assess and diagnose, consultation to families and carers, training for various audiences locally, nationally and internationally, consultation to commissioners and providers, and development of autism services.
The aim of the Masterclass is to  explore some of the particular issues specific to gender and sexuality in autism, the difficulties differentiating between gender dysphoria and a special interest, the issues for the person themselves as well as for services and those supporting the autistic person. Content will draw on current research and case studies and explore understanding and supporting the autistic person who may be questioning their gender and sexuality.

The Masterclass will be helpful to a wide range of professionals working with autistic people and may also be relevant to family members and autistic people.

The content of the session will be applicable to those working with autistic adolescents and adults.
