Family photo at the All Aboard for Autism fundraising event, with quote

My name is Clare, and I live with my son Spencer, aged seven, near Leamington Spa. Spencer was diagnosed with autism when he was just three, and this year will be the third time he’s been to All Aboard for Autism – he just loves it.

I would never usually sign up to things like this as Spencer struggles in busy or noisy places, but with it being an event for autistic people and their families, I thought it was the perfect opportunity to meet people who simply understand. It looked like great fun, especially for Spencer, who is a huge Thomas fan!

We’re going along as ‘Team Spencer’ for the day – joined by his Nanny and Papa as we’ve always done.

It’s a fantastic event from start to finish – what I really love most is that all of the staff are so friendly and helpful before, during and after the walk and we can go at our own pace as it’s a very relaxed atmosphere.

Spencer really likes the sensory bus. It’s a fantastic space to go if he isn’t coping well before the sponsored walk starts. We love the stalls and having our photo taken with props in the photo booth too!

The warm up with the fat controller is brilliant, and we loved spending time in Thomas Land after – you recognise people who did the walk because of their National Autistic Society t-shirts and everyone smiles and says hello. It’s so lovely to be greeted with a smile when we arrive and leave – it felt that everyone we met took the time to speak to us and pointed us in the right direction.

This year we registered as soon as it opened and we've already started fundraising – we’re so excited!
