Sam has been offering support to children who access our holiday day outings and weekly social club setting for the past 18 months. Sam sets up tables, chairs and activities ahead of the children arriving, he encourages individuals to try new things, talk with others and take part in activities.

Sam always has a positive attitude, calm manner and is always approachable. His understanding of autism and how others may be feeling means he is able to offer support to a child who may be feeling anxious or frustrated. Sam always takes the time to get to know individuals and learns what they like or dislike and he uses this information to make the time at their club enjoyable.

Sam is a valued member of our staff team and he is appreciated not only by his colleagues but by the children and their parents.

Helen Dunkley, who nominated Sam for the award said:

I was made aware of the local Mayor’s Volunteer Awards early this year and I nominated Sam for the young volunteer award as I would like to see his commitment to his volunteering role be recognised. Sam will be attending an awards ceremony at Reigate Town Hall in July 2018.
