David Mitchell, author.

We’re delighted to announce that acclaimed novelist David Mitchell will be joining us for a live Twitter Q&A from 1pm – 2pm  tomorrow, Tuesday 11 July.

Fall Down 7 Times, Get up 8He’ll be discussing his new translation of the work of Japanese autistic writer Naoki Higashida, Fall Down 7 Times Get up 8 – the sequel to The Reason I Jump – which will just have been published that day!

David, who has an autistic son, said Naoki: “dissolves the lazy stereotype that autistic people are androids who don't feel. On the contrary; they feel everything, intensely. What's missing is the ability to communicate what they feel. Part of this is our fault – we're so busy being shocked, upset, irritated or looking the other way that we don't hear them. Shouldn't we learn how?”

David’s novels number9dream and Cloud Atlas were shortlisted for the Booker Prize and Slade House was a New York Times bestseller.

If you’d like to read more about his personal experience of autism and the new book, here’s his latest interview in the New Statesman.
