Oak Lodge school caters for students aged 11 to 19 years with a wide range of complex learning difficulties including ASCs. The school is funded for 165 places, the proportion who have an ASC is currently around 50% of our pupil population. With this in mind the whole school Philosophy is based on The National Autistic Society's (NAS's) SPELL approach although an eclectic range of teaching methods are used that are consistent with 'Good Practice' for students with autism and associated speech language communication difficulties. All methods and interventions used have a robust evidence base and include TEACCH and more recently SCERTS which is an educational intervention appropriate for individual with ASC. Academic attainment ranges from level P5 to NCL1. OFTSED have judged the school to be 'Outstanding' and the school have NAS Accreditation. Oak Lodge is also a National Support School the Head is a National Leader of Education and Assistant Head a Specialist Leader of Education in autism, therefore Oak Lodge provides significant school to school support and outreach services and training. Oak Lodge are an 'Inclusive school'. We do not have separate provision for autism as the whole school committed to consistent highly specific practice. More recently the school has responded to the 'Gap' in provision for 19-25 years and now offers education for a small cohort of students up to 25 years with autism and complex learning needs as a Franchise of Barnet and Southgate College.
