The Additional Educational Needs (AEN) department at The Academy has provision for students with autism spectrum conditions (ASCs). Students are educated in mainstream classes but strategies and advice is given to staff and students to achieve success. Intervention and support work is mainly carried out in groups with other students with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). However some groups are mixed; some intervention/support is 1:1. We have trained Learning Coaches (LCs). Other facilities offered by the school are; dyslexia support room; and a Vulnerable Support room (VSR) for students requiring emotional support. Behaviour and mediation support. As well as the academic subject areas on offer in the curriculum the school has additional extension classes available some of which involve the radio station; media; health and beauty salon/suite; and training restaurant.
