Salary: £8.72 pho (social); £10.09 ph (unsocial)
Contract: Zero Hours
Hours: ideally minimum 15 hours per week
Location: NAS Sybil Elgar School, West London

Our Sybil Elgar School in West London is looking for Classroom Assistants (Zero Hours) to work with young people with autism at our Education sites in Southall and Acton and/or at our residential site in Ealing, on a regular basis depending on the needs of the school.

Under the supervision and direction of the Teacher or Senior Residential Care Worker, the role will primarily involve:

  • providing cover in the absence of permanent staff across the services (ie Residential, Educational services) wherever the need arises on an ad hoc or rota basis, working a range of shifts as and when required
  • assisting in the planning and delivery of the National Curriculum
  • playground/dinner supervision
  • maintaining a safe and tidy work environment
  • ensuring child protection
  • assisting with planning and accompanying of students in a range of educational visits and leisure pursuits
  • dealing with complex behaviours including social and communication difficulties
  • some lifting of students and/or toileting assistance may be required
  • maintaining records
  • attending staff meetings.


Ideally we are looking for people with experience and a qualification in childcare or special needs.  More importantly, we are looking for people with a professional attitude, with considerable patience and empathy, those that will be committed and caring in their approach to the role. 

Training will be available for the right candidate.
