Shop security and privacy

The National Autistic Society collects, stores, and uses personal information with adequate notice and consent on this website. We are registered with the UK's data protection authority as required by law. Please see our site conditions for details of our full privacy statement and the terms of use for this site.

Financial information such as your credit card number or other unique payment identifiers, are not stored by the National Autistic Society from any payments made on this website. Credit card information is used only for payment processing and is securely transmitted to our payments partner (PayPal) at the time of finalising a purchase only. We do not store your financial details beyond the life of the payment transaction.

Please note if you are a returning shopper you may experience a credit card number being suggested when you start typing the number on our payments page. This is a feature of the browser software you are using. We do not have access to this information until you submit the payment. Please review the browser software you are using and the settings around the feature typically called "auto-complete" if this concerns you.

Order details such as which products have been purchased, are held for a period typical for accounting records. These order records may be analysed with other website usage data to improve our services to you and other visitors to this site.

Autism.org.uk is secure

We realise how important it is to securely store any information that you provide. The National Autistic Society maintains high levels of security. Our site uses high-level SSL encryption technology, the best security approach currently available for web transactions. You can therefore be assured that we take the privacy and security of your payment card and personal details seriously.

You can tell whether a page is secure as 'https' will replace the 'http' at the front of the www.autism.org.uk in your browser address window. A small locked padlock will also appear in the bottom bar of your browser window.

We use the industry leader VeriSign as the provider of our security certificate so you can trust and verify its authenticity in many modern browsers.

Periodically we have our site security tested by an independent assessor for compliance to the payment card industry standards.

Email scams and phishing

Sad to say even supporters of charities are targeted by people trying to trick you into giving confidential information away.

Examples include falsely claiming to be a legitimate organisation when sending an e-mail to a user, in an attempt to get the user to send private information that will be used for identity theft and fraud.

We will never ask you to send any payment details via email. If we require such details, for security reasons we will ask you to contact us by phone.

Should you receive an email claiming to be from The National Autistic Society requesting payment card information, please do not respond but let us know by contacting: customerservices@nas.org.uk
