At Kingsley House we provide high quality residential and day services for adults with autism in a specialist 24-hour, safe and secure learning environment.
Our emphasis is on supporting adults with complex needs to fulfill their potential by developing vocational and life skills.
Environment and facilities
Our residential services provide accommodation that has been carefully designed to meet the needs of adults. Each house is built around a central courtyard that includes Orchard House with three smaller homes - Ash, Beech and Chestnut.
The people who live with us are housed based on their individual needs, and we try to group people within their peer groups and with friends.
Everyone who lives with us has their own bedroom, which we encourage them to personalise. Each house has a sitting room, dining room, quiet room and specialist teaching kitchen that residents can use to help them develop their independent living skills.
Leisure and learning activities
Our accommodation is designed to allow the people who stay with us to experience a greater degree of independence. We provide everyone who lives at Kingsley House with the skills they need to live day-to-day such as budgeting, personal hygiene and communication skills.
Kingsley House is located close to the countryside and the beautiful Bideford coast, and we make the most of our location with a range of outdoor activities including walking along the Tarka Trail and visiting the local beach.
We also run many leisure activities on site, as well as off-site activities such as swimming, riding, rambling, local youth clubs, cinema and shopping trips. We are within walking distance of a large supermarket which we make good use of to practise a range of essential skills.
At Kingsley House, each person is treated as an individual and our support gives them control over their life. We place them at the centre of everything we do, so that they gain self-confidence and independence. Each person works closely with us to develop their care and support plan and to make sure that it lives up to their expectations. Our approach can transform people's lives.
Our staff team receives high quality, specialist training that is constantly updated to ensure we provide a first class service, where people thrive and are truly valued. We help people to move from often difficult circumstances on to greater independence.
We use well established strategies such as TEACCH, PECS, Makaton and Signalong to enable the people we support to communicate and participate fully.
