    NAS Branches offer support to families who have a child or member with autism or Asperger syndrome.  The initial aims of the Keighley and Worth Valley are: to relax with people who understand over a cuppa in an informal setting • to raise awareness of the autism spectrum including Asperger syndrome for adults and children with or without a diagnosis • to support parents, carers, individuals on the spectrum and those working with them • to meet once a month to chat, discuss issues / concerns, learn from each other, share knowledge and strategies • to develop a branch library • to look at issues such as ‘challenging behaviour’, social difficulties, coping strategies and many more

    Description
    NAS branch for children and adults with ASD and their families in York, Selby or Hambleton. We have a range of activities for children with ASD and their families: a monthly meeting; a trampoline club on the 3rd Sunday in the month for those over 5 – siblings welcome; a dance club on the 2nd week of the month; one-off events like music classes, art classes, and visits to a specialist farm. Activities for adults with ASD and their families include: a meeting every third month; liaising with other groups in York like ASPIRE, who offer monthly social meeting for people with ASD 18+; one-off activities such as marshalling for the Great Yorkshire Bike Ride and an art display at the York designer outlet. The two sections come together at our regular Full Branch meetings, where we organise branch events - like our September Conference in York and charity stalls in the city centre – and address NAS national campaigns like ‘You need to know’ and ‘I exist’ and put them into a local context.     Description
    Formerly Actively Supporting ASD Parents (ASAP), the Branch meets every month on a Friday: 1-2.30pm for parent/carers of children with ASD; 2.30-4pm for adults with ASD and their families/support person. The members of the group help and support each other and share experiences. Speakers are invited to attend the meetings. We now arrange social outings with our children and offer different venues, dependent on children's ages, eg bowling, outdoor play at pre-arranged venues.
