Mark Lever signs a new agreement between the NAS and RemployThe National Autistic Society (NAS) has established a ground-breaking partnership with Remploy, the UK's leading provider of employment services for disabled people, to help increase the number of people with autism entering mainstream employment.

Our research has shown that only 15% of adults with autism have a full-time job. The majority of the over 300,000 working age adults with autism in the UK want to work but are being held back by a lack of understanding of autism and a dearth of specialist employment services.

Now, Remploy and the NAS are working in partnership to:

  • promote inclusion in employment for people with autism
  • create a framework to work together to meet the needs of people with autism
  • complement the employment services Remploy already provides to people facing multiple barriers to work.

The partnership has already seen Prospects, the NAS specialist autism employment service, provide autism expertise through a tailored training package for all staff at Remploy’s network of high-street recruitment branches.

In return Remploy will support adults with autism with a range of specialist recruitment and development services, including writing effective CVs and job application letters and developing self-confidence.

Mark Lever, Chief Executive of The National Autistic Society said:

We know that the vast majority of adults with autism in the UK want to work, but experience great difficulty in finding and staying in employment, often due to inadequate support and misunderstandings related to their condition. We are delighted to be able to share our expertise with Remploy in order to help more people with autism fulfil their potential. The right help at the right time can make an enormous difference.

Beth Carruthers, Remploy’s Director of Employment Services said:

This agreement is a major step forward in supporting people with autism into work. The number of people with autism currently in mainstream employment is pitifully low but I am confident that by working in partnership with the NAS we will see a significant increase.
