Once you graduate you will probably want to find a job. This page tells you about a service run by The National Autistic Society which may be able to help you.

Students with Asperger syndrome who wish to work in London may be able to access our Prospects transition project. This project is for students entering their final year of study or those who have recently graduated. The project aims to offer a flexible package of pre-employment training in the form of small group workshops. They are also able to offer one-to-one support sessions for people who would benefit from this.

There is further support available from Prospects, both in London and some other areas of the UK.

It would be advisable to arrange an appointment with a careers adviser at the university careers office, well in advance of finishing your course. It will depend on your chosen career path as to how much advice you may need about finding employment, and it is difficult to put an exact time on when is a good time to start looking for work. Hopefully the careers adviser will help with answering these questions.

There are a number of employment support services for individuals who have disabilities. The first step in gaining support with looking for work is to arrange an appointment with a disability employment adviser at your local Jobcentre Plus. Remember that adults with ASDs have a lot to offer employers and it is important that you can get the right support with looking for work and finding a job to match your skills, talents and job preferences. If you would like to read more about looking for work and finding out about support that may be available, contact our Autism Helpline on 0808 800 4104 (Mon-Fri, 10am-4pm) and request a 'Looking for work' information pack.
