The Hayes is an independent hospital able to support up to 12 men with Asperger syndrome and associated behavioural difficulties who are detainable under the Mental Health Act 1983. It is a locked environment with a secure perimeter for people who either need to step up from community or local services, or step down from a service that has provided higher levels of security.
We aim to help adults with Asperger syndrome and challenging behaviour to enjoy as independent a life as possible, finding a balance between security and rehabilitation. We offer autism-specific assessment and care which is based on people's individual needs.
We also have a day centre which adults with Asperger syndrome from the local area - as well as our residents - can use, and our outreach and support team can assess and work with adults with autism in their own home or residential service. Meanwhile, we are developing a range of training courses for professionals.
