Cast of A Badge

Award-winning writer and actor Tony Pitts has written a powerful new drama for Radio 4 about the struggles, fears and hopes of two mothers bringing up autistic children. A Badge will be broadcast on Friday 17 November, at 2.15pm.

Tony has had a hugely successful career, appearing in Hollywood blockbusters Rogue One and War Horse, as well prime-time UK dramas Line of Duty and Peaky Blinders. His radio play On It, won gold at the Radio Academy Awards in 2012 and his latest film Funny Cow, staring Maxine Peake, was loved by the critics and received four star reviews. The film goes on general release in spring 2018.

As part of his research for A Badge, Tony talked to the National Autistic Society and to several mums who shared their experiences of parenting an autistic child in a society which doesn’t always understand the challenges this brings.

One of the parents he interviewed was Fay Hough, a National Autistic Society parent campaigner. Fay and her autistic son Bowie get a special thank you in the credits.
