The National Autistic Society is delighted to announce that we have been shortlisted for the ‘Corporate National Partnership of the Year with a Retailer’ category for our partnership with shopping centre owner intu.

Charity Times Awards 2017.

Last year, the National Autistic Society won ‘PR Team of the Year’ at the Charity Times Award ceremony so we are thrilled to be nominated again in a different category.

Our work with intu began when we launched our Too Much Information campaign and since then they have helped us enormously to improve public understanding of autism and make public spaces, such as shopping centres, more autism friendly.

In 2016, we launched our successful virtual reality campaign in the intu’s UK shopping centres which received an incredibly positive response from both the general public and the autistic community due to its ‘real life’ portrayal of what it can feel like to experience sensory overload as an autistic person.

On the 2 October, we will be launching the National Autistic Society’s Autism Hour across intu centres which is asking shops and services to take simple steps for 60 minutes to make their venue more autism friendly.

As the owner of some of the largest and most popular shopping centres across Britain, it is so encouraging for us to see intu choose to take the time to understand how they can provide autistic people with places where they feel welcomed and safe. Staff at intu centres also receive training to provide autism-aware customer service and autistic people also benefit from guides that allow them to plan and prepare a visit to each intu centre.

The winner will be announced on 4 October 2017 at the Awards Gala Dinner in London, so please wish us luck!
