The National Autistic Society Scotland welcomes the proposals for a named person for every child outlined in the Children and Young People (Scotland) Act 2014.

We believe this system will simplify and reinforce existing processes, ensuring the welfare of children in our society by bringing greater consistency and coordination to the support that is offered to families.

However, given that more than one in 100 children and young people is autistic, we believe it is essential for named persons to have training in autism in order for the system to be effective.

The National Autistic Society Scotland wants to work in partnership with Scottish Government to share our knowledge and expertise with its named persons, ensuring that together we are getting it right for every child.
