In October 2009 we launched our national campaign 'Don’t Write Me Off', to make the existing work and benefits system fairer for people with autism. Our research has shown that one third of adults with autism are currently without a job or benefits. Over half have spent some time without either work or benefits, some for more than ten years. This indicated that adults with autism are being written off.

If a person with autism is not in employment, it is important that the benefits system supports them financially, so that they do not fall into poverty, and that they have access to appropriate and specialist employment services to help them find work. However, this is often not the case.
