As part of the autism strategy, the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) has been asked to produce a clinical guideline that will include diagnostic processes. This guideline can then be used by local NHS bodies to develop a clear and consistent pathway for diagnosis. This guideline is currently under development and is planned to be published in 2012.
