The Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF), now the Department for Education, invested £19 million in a Transition Support Programme. The programme is contracted to be delivered by the National Transition Support Team, based at the Council for Disabled Children.

The programme is for young people with all types of special educational needs (SEN), but the Department of Health and the then DCSF commissioned a study into the experiences that young people with autism and their families have of multi-agency transition services that is due to report in January 2012.
