Training and consultancy solutions

With more than ten years experience of designing and facilitating high quality autism training, we provide practical learning and development solutions for local authorities (LAs), housing associations, and residential homes and schools. We also partner with major employers to train a wide range of professional workers and advisers within the criminal justice, education and health services.

Built on our international reputation for being a leading authority in the world of autism, The National Autistic Society (NAS) training and consultancy solutions reflect our experience and evidence base of research and practice, reinforced by feedback from people with autism, their carers and families.

In-house and open courses

We also provide training in a variety of subjects relating to autism, delivered by our highly experienced trainers and facilitators. These can be delivered on an in-house basis or individuals can attend one of our open courses which run nationally.

University qualifications

We work in close partnership with a number of leading UK universities to offer fully accredited undergraduate and postgraduate courses and professional qualifications, which include:

  • Principles and Practice of Working with Individuals on the Autism Spectrum - University of Cumbria
  • Working with the Autism Spectrum: Theory into Practice - Edinburgh Napier University
  • Understanding Autism in School - Canterbury Christ Church University
  • Postgraduate Certificate in Asperger Syndrome - Sheffield Hallam University

Our SPELL framework

SPELL is short for 'Structure, Positive approaches and expectations, Empathy, Low arousal and Links'. In 2009, The Tizard Centre (University of Kent) undertook an independent evaluation of our SPELL training framework, funded by the Inge Wakehurst Trust.

New for 2011

We are pleased to offer a new autism training for trainers programme to support people wishing to use the new SPELL materials for their own staff training purposes.
