This one-day course is for those who want to become an autism trainer. You are required to have a good understanding of the autism spectrum.

The course is based on training materials produced by The National Autistic Society, in partnership with The Tizard Centre, University of Kent, called Understanding and supporting children and adults on the autism spectrum (published by Pavilion).

There will be an element of pre-course work involved. Therefore, delegates must purchase the training pack in advance of attending the programme. Details of how to do this will be provided when your application is approved.

Key aims

By the end of this one-day programme you will:

  • understand some key principles relating to the delivery of autism-specific training
  • have explored the training materials further and be more confident in your use of the training pack
  • have engaged in delivery of a section of the material and received feedback from a lead trainer and your peers, which will help you to outline your individual development plan
  • have had an opportunity to network with other professionals who support people with autism.
