The National Autistic Society (NAS) Cymru works throughout Wales for people affected by autism.

Our outreach service helps children and adults with Asperger syndrome or high-functioning autism to take part in activities outside their home and in the community, build their confidence and become more independent in all areas of life. For example, we can help people to take part in their favourite sport or go on a college course.

The support we offer

We tailor our services to each person's needs, so our support may be short- or long-term. Individual packages include support in:

  • accessing the local community
  • university and college
  • the workplace.


We also help people to set personal goals and address many other issues relating to autism, Asperger syndrome or learning difficulties.

All our work is underpinned by well-established, autism-specific approaches such as the NAS SPELL framework and TEACCH.

Our activities help people with autism to:

  • keep safe
  • maintain relationships with family and friends
  • be part of the community
  • go to college or university
  • use health care and leisure facilities
  • use public transport
  • develop independent living skills
  • learn household management skills
  • develop social skills
  • move from home to independent living
  • find and keep employment.

Person-centred approach

This is the first contact I've had with the NAS. It's been an extremely positive experience. The service is tailored to support people like me with Asperger syndrome.
Person we support

Our expertise and experience enable us to communicate effectively with people with autism so that they can express what they want and need.

We work closely with each person to create their own individual support plan and put it into practice. We think it's vital to involve the person with autism in the planning process so that they have every opportunity to develop and thrive.

We also make sure that family, carers, friends and staff are fully involved in the planning process.

Our team

Our staff have a range of specialisms and knowledge, so we can offer the right support to each person with autism and help them to fulfil their needs and wishes. Our staff continue to develop their autism-specific training throughout their career.
